St Augustine grass is a weed!

I had a neighbor put out the wrong weed and feed on St Augustine and had to re-sod the yard.

I do have St Augustine. No more Scott's though. Used the bag and it seems to be working ok. I have Milorganite going forward. Also have a "calendar" from the local nursery telling me what to treat the lawn with each month.

Sposta put Potash on it this month for strong roots. Next month is crabgrass control and kill-a-bug granules for insects.

I do need to get some more Tenacity. Previous guy didn't take care of the lawn at all and it's got weeds like a mofo. The theory is to feed the lawn (and weeds) to get it healthy and then zap the damn weeds with the Tenacity.

It likely will be fine, but St A. is sensitive to 2,4,D, the active ingredient in W+F.

Iffin you don't mind spraying the lawn a handful of times a year, I highly recommend a pre-emergent like prodiamine. It keeps the weeds from ever appearing.

Thanks. I'll look into that, for sure. I need to get this looking good again. It's coming along, but the side of the house where they were running the bobcat for the turf is a bit beat up. They laid down hard plastic stuff to run over, but it flattened the grass. It's already popping back up, but that area got browned pretty good.

Looks like the "Tenacity" herbicide I was using is no bueno for St Augustine, too... so I have to get Blindside WDG herbicide.

When I did my own yard in CA it looked awesome. Deep green, lush, no weeds, cut, trimmed and edged right. When I got a yard service it looked like crap... and the weeds in the other yards he was cutting invaded my yard.

Think I'll do this myself. Aside from the weeds invading the lawn, and the swath where the bobcat ran back and forth, it's looking a lot better already. If I can get the grass healthy again and kill the weeds... it'll look great by next summer.

If not... rip out and replace.

I take the money I'd spend on my grass watering, mowing/trimming equipment, feeding, cutting and bug protection sprays and spend the money on guns, ammo, and liquor.

Gene, what good are the guns and ammo if you can't sit on your porch and yell "Get off my lawn!" to passerbys?

Yep, When I was in college I worked on a country club golf course so when we bought our first house I got stolons from the hybrid greens and used them to establish my lawn. Bought an expensive Jacobsen front-throw mower and kept that lawn looking just like a golf course green for many years. Everyone in the neighborhood came by asking for advise but none wanted to put in that kind of effort for very long.

Was fun for a few years but I don't miss it at all.

Why do painters wear white pants?
Isn't that the exact wrong color to wear?

Guy I used to paint for claimed it did start because the majority of panting was done in white early on. Said another reason was it was cooler in hot weather.

I've verified neither claim, but makes sense.

A great lawn is a ton of work, beside the costs. I used up several lawnmowers cutting grass as a kid, and we always had large yards, but no more.

Well, I know why the Scott's Weed n' Feed is working... it's the Florida blend for St Augustine/Zoysia lawns. That's what the HD here sells. Makes sense.

Smoked a whole bologna log yesterday. Made 1/4" slices and then pan seared them.

The boy has refused to try bologna in the past, but he loves hot dogs more than any other food. I showed him the 5lb chub of bologna on the smoker and told him it was a slice off a hot dog as tall as me.

He loved it. Haven't told him it's bologna yet.

Old coworker and I text often, haven't worked there since 09. He said he was going to Waldo Cooney's for lunch. I used to love that place, but again I haven't been there since 09. Ordered a calzone and drove an hour to pick it up. Grabbed a slice to go from their pizza carousel too. Slices used to be $2, part of the appeal of going there. Was down the street from my old house and I'd walk there chitfaced to get a slice. But the slices went up to $6 now. Granted it's a huge slice and insanely thick crust - at least an inch thick and cooked perfectly.

The slice hit the spot.

I cut the calzone in half around 1am and ate half of it. When they're hot and the cheese is gooey you don't realize how much cheese is in them things. But out of the fridge and cut in half it looked like thin dough wrapped around blocks of mozzarella cheese. That cheese was a good 3/4" thick. It was everything I remembered. Even now at 7am I am uncomfortably full.

Workweek starts tonight. Already dreading it. I've been looking for a new job.

We have a Rosati's about 5 miles away. I'm not a big fan of Chicago style pizza, but I need to find a local place to get a good pie.

I've got a corned beef brisket point in the slow cooker for dinner, though.

Apparently real Chicago style pizza is a super thin crust pizza (often frozen ) cut in squares and fed to drunk people in taverns. Home Run Inn frozen pizza is a good example.

Deep dish is for tourists. I like being a tourist. I’ve almost got my Giordano’s copycat pizza perfected.

Non-St. Augustine fertilizer IS sold in Florida and will kill your lawn. Instead of Scott's, why not LESCO?

Dog walk and five miles of steps completed. A few stretches and push-ups. Moved some dumbbells around.

Two eggs, hash browns, sausage, breakfast bar, yogurt, couple coffees. Maybe some rhubarb bread next.

Why not Bandini? I dunno... there it was, on my path through HD... so I grabbed the Scott's. Right now I have Milorganite waiting in the garage for the next feed.

Got a tool chest from HD today. Husky 46" in red. Has a power strip on the side where I have plugged in my Ryobi battery chargers. 9 drawers. Fits all the tools I have...

Also grabbed a rake and a shovel as well as some "hooks" for the "Fast Track" system already mounted on the garage wall. Got my yard tools all hung up.

I've spent so much money at HD this year, they have stopped giving me the 10% military discount until next year. Apparently there is a yearly max dollar amount... Think

In 1991, was in Tucson for a couple March Madness games. Got liquored up and lost, looking for a liquor store. Found one is South Tucson. My buddy and I were quite a hit. People were jabbering away, laughing, pointing etc.
Couldn’t figure out what they were laughing at.

Only when the second or third person came over and touched us on the arm did we realize we were the only white people and English speakers. If we weren’t so smashed, we should have been scared.

A good hint to use for decent pizza is look for local places that use NY Pizza in advertising or name. It's that foldable gooey triangle of bliss. I usually get a slice or 2...the lunch special...before I'd order a whole pie. We used to have a great place in town. Covid killed it. Well, that and the "Head Cashier/maître d'" was the "Cook/Line Chef's" wife and it was pretty common to hear heated discussions in the front and in the kitchen. She always had a glass of vino going...so there's that. Sad, because their pizza was awesome.

Our favorite pizza was a mom and pop place about 2 miles away. The crust was very unique somewhere between thick and thin with a kind of cornbread taste to it. We went there so often that we just called their phone and gave them our last name and they would make our favorite size and combo of ingredients and it would be ready when we arrived. If there was an open table they were happy to let us sit down and eat there even though we had called in our order.

They sold the place when they were ready to retire but assured us that the new owners would use their recipe and make the same pizza. Tried the new place a couple of times ...... ruined! Place went out of business in about 6 months.
