This thing is pretty silly and obvious... But some people will still believe it's the Republican's fault because the media tells them to... Not talking

Yah...that's what the party that controls both chambers of Congress, with enough votes within their own party to avoid the shutdown, wants you to believe...

The GOP is learning that it was pretty easy to obstruct, but much more difficult to govern....I guess those muscles atrophied during the Obama years...

Who's gonna die? Some people are gonna work without pay, happened before, but these things don't last anyway.

Gotta have 60 votes.. all we need is 9 Democrats but Schumer and Pelosi won't allow it.. but the will insist, like many others cause they're told to, that it's all the Republican's fault... Mellow

Some moronic pube talking head was saying that if there was a shutdown, it would be a much better shutdown than the one while Obama was in office.

Ooops, sorry I was wrong about only needing a majority vote in the Senate...

so they need 12 Dems, because three GOP Senators are opposed......what is the GOP offering as concessions for their votes? Isn't that how governance worked in the past?

so only Dems are to blame

Did the GOP accept dog **** to avoid the last shutdown?

Mulvaney says that if the govt. does shut down, there won't be the discomfort felt across the country as occurred when the GOP shut down the govt when Obama was President. He said Obama "weaponized" the shut down to hurt the public...

Not in the media in Trump's world...

I miss the days when compromise and concessions were part of the process of governance...when the parties both at least pretended to be doing the "people's work." When some Senators and Reps were respected by people in the opposing party. Now it's more like a team/blood sport and every decision is contested as if 'lives depend on it" and any member of the other party is villified as a chit eating mongrel...

Used to be they'd play an annual ball game, Dems and Reps vs other Dems and Reps. They hung out. Lived in Washington. Didn't have or listen to partisan news channels.

“[W]hen you ask any of the congressional observers or longtime lawmakers what’s changed, the answer is always the same — no one spends any time together anymore. Families don’t move to Washington. Members blow out of town like the last day of school each Thursday afternoon, racing to the airports only to return late Monday.”

The house and a filibuster proof senate for a year and the Kenyan King couldn't fix the "dreamers" *ILLEGAL ALIENS*

His DACA doesn't end until March, DemocRATS are NOT compromising or conceding anything.

I don't like sticking up for Obama, but I don't think he ever had a supermajority in the Senate.

I've been trying to find information on this and simply can't find anything concrete...

So I seriously dislike the government shutdown, ever since living in DC and seeing what actually happens. For those of you who don't know... the entire city starts running around like its a snow day. No one has to work... and guess what, while they may not be getting paid now, most of the people I knew ended up getting back-pay after the budget is set... so it's free vacation. F$$kers....

That in mind, I can't figure out what the dems are necessarily voting against here. Can someone rational tell me why they don't want to approve the current CR? Is it just a bad budget (ie programs they want being cut?) or is it because it's a CR and not an actual budget? (I get wanting to stop this kicking the can down the road)...

A lot of "people" voted for him because of his tremendous negotiating skills.
Of course, we've seen absolutely no evidence of these skills but I'm sure he has them and is saving them for when he really needs them.

Give him credit, he did delay his trip to Florida.

The last time the govt. shut down was in 2013, when the GOP wanted to keep Obamacare from being funded...they thought that was a good reason...now they don't want to solve DACA or fund CHIP, which the Dems are asking for...so basically their position is we don't want to fund stuff the Dems want for poor people, who would likely vote Dem?

Were there any real severe consequences from the 2013 shutdown? They eventually relented, after two weeks, and Obamacare was funded. It gave the GOP a political cause to fight against for the next few years. The GOP retained control of Congress and eventually won the Presidency. So shutting the Fed govt is not that big of a deal to the GOP...

Good point. If his policy of 'grab now and pay later' had only worked on Senate Dems he might have closed this deal.
Instead he baited and switched them regarding DACA.
And blew it.

Chit, does this mean I don't get my cigars in the mail??

So apparently the dems want to keep DACA, Trump has refused to extend it in the past (I think?).... it expires in March.

So the dems won't sign unless there is an extension to DACA in place DACA is set to expire in March.

Trump claims that there is "plenty of time" to negotiate DACA and that they should just drop it. Of course, trump has shown himself to be horribly unreliable in the past, and if they give up this leverage he'll likely just not extend it in March.

I'm meh on DACA... but its another one of those programs that once in place, seems pretty bad to remove. The US government negotiated in good faith to get these illegal immigrants to become documented and in the system. If DACA is ended, ICE will likely just use those existing records to find and deport them immediately. It appears pretty poor form.

I believe they are asking for DACA extension, the absence of a bill is the problem.

And they aren't going to just trust that he will take care of it if they vote for this. He's welched on everything else he says he will do.

This is what happens when a president loses credibility with congress. They start asking him to pay up front for all deals.

WTF are you talking about?

I'm referring to credibility when it comes to negotiations.

Trump has reversed, backtracked, reneged on a number of negotiations with both dem and repub congress. They have no reason to trust what he says, so I can understand why they're not going to drop this simply because he believes they can negotiate something next month.

Do you even read your own chit? There was no negotiation. Executive order is king Barry saying "I'll do what I want, I don't need you". At least Mr. orange's EO to remove it gave the congress 4-5 months to work on it. He could have just ended it.
