If she was a raging bitch, why did you marry her?

(Or)

Was she hot, so you thought you could live with it?

Are you a dumbass?

Well....

I'm ready to pave our yard.

Push powered lawnmower arrived wed. I assembled it got it ready...
Yesterday at about 630 I decided I should try mowing, since it was going to rain sat and sun...

I got about one length through the foot high grass... Mostly just laying it horizontal, the catcher didn't catch anything... What grass was mowed just blew around in all directions.

So I ran to Walmart (goddammit I never thought I would say that) and bought a mower (and trimmer while I was out). Started mowing last night after getting that thing working. One of my really nice neighbors came by and helped with his mower. Had the front yard knocked out by about 9pm.

Now it's raining. I have no idea how I'm going to get the back done with it this wet.... But it has to be done this weekend. I'm gone the next two.

Heavens to Betsy, if that grass eater didn't dun spray grass ever which way...

So I high tailed it down to the piggly wiggly and picked me up a new one of them thur grass eaters and one them things gots a spinning knife on the front... Took me 4 days to mow the damn lawn and I need to do it again by Saturday because I:m taking a week off retirement for a Cape Cod vacation. It just keeps raining about 5 days a week and it looks like I need to do the next mow in one day. It's about time to get a sit down mower with a cup holder and an ashtray.

Same here. Just mowing a section at a time as weather permits. There's probably one full acre of lawn well over a foot high.

Gonna do the high ground again today before it rains again.

Also, riding mowers are pretty sweet if you have the room for one. Kinda a pain in small yards with fences and landscaping though.

Victor, why you ain't got a mowing service?

If you're gonna be away at times, it would make sense to pay for mowing. I used to mow lawns as a side cash job. My dad still does. Push mow and trim average yard once a week, bag and carry the clippings for $50.

Deck fell off the mower again. No welding required this time. Front support bar held on by a washer and a clip. Clip n washer fell off. Didn't have a washer in the bins that fit, so I cut and drilled one out of a piece of plate steel. Stuck a cotter pin in the retainer hole, hopefully that holds up better.

My back yard is artificial turf, but I have a guy who does my front yard for $45 a month. He mows every Thursday, and trims and fertilizes, too.

Towing mileage will be improved as well... I get better MPG when I am towing than you get when you're not, though...

EcoDiesel, bitches!

The half ton diesels would work well for me 96% of the time.

But I just can't bring myself to use a half ton for hauling 8-10k lbs over 1500 miles round trip when I'm pulling the Gridlife trailer. With weight distribution I'm sure it would do it. But last year after a tire blowout on the trailer I found myself coming down the mountains without trailer brakes and I sure was glad I had a 3/4 ton chassis to slow everything down. Plus, every new camper we've really liked has been in the 8-10klb range, so I think I'll be towing a lot more weight a lot more often whenever we do pull the trigger on a new camper. Right now at 6klbs I can tow it with anything really.

I just used my dad's half ton after I blew the tranny (GMC Sierra with the 6.2L) and it towed my camper well with the weight distribution hitch. It had plenty of power but it didn't have the chassis. Could feel some flex, and definitely relied on the trailer brakes more than in my truck. Plus got significantly worse towing mileage than my HD truck. (8 vs 10) But unloaded, we took his truck to Florida and got 22mpg over the 2000+ mile round trip. Premium 93 octane mind you, but still better than mine that gets 10 loaded and 11 unloaded.

The overall cost of a diesel, even in a 3/4 or 1 ton, is hard to swallow. Up front is a huge premium and then there's higher cost for oil changes, DEF, fuel filters, exhaust particulate filter etc. I don't think at present that the diesel vs gas is an argument of economy as much as it's gonna tow nicer with the diesel. With the next generation of gasoline HD trucks coming out this/next year I'd like to see what comes out. I would like to have a diesel 1 ton, but I do have to argue against the cost premium.

Student loans will be paid off by the end of this year. That frees up $680/mo. Maybe I'll spring for the GMC 3500 Denali Duramax dually.

That's crazy cheap.

I asked a lawn service to do my lawn once while we were outta town for two weeks a few summers back. They told me $200 for mow and trim. For one mow. My neighbor did it for $50 and two weeks worth of eggs.

$400/mo if I wanted to do the whole season. Almost worth it considering it takes me 2-3 hours to mow and I only trim once a month. Comes out to paying about $30/hour of my time saved if they mow and trim everything every week.

My trailer doesn't have brakes. It really should, as the boat/trailer combo is 4000 lbs, but she handles it just fine. 8k is the limit.

I do my own changes for around $65, I change my own fuel filter for around $20, DEF is cheap and it doesn't use much, and the DPF can be cleaned with a hot pressure washer.

I didn't pay much of a premium for my diesel. The total cost before TTL was $40,615 on a Crew Cab Laramie that had a window sticker of $51,365. But you are correct in wanting the bigger truck to pull more weight, IMO. The EcoD works for me and what I tow.

My front yard is small. He can do everything in about 15 minutes. Mow, trim, edge... done.

You obviously have a much bigger yard if it takes hours.

4 acres, but only 3 gets mowed. The southwest corner is so heavily wooded I only venture through there once in the summer and twice in the fall to chop leaves. Have to walk the corner and pickup sticks and paint mark stumps and roots before I bring the mower back there.

Still, I charged $50/week for mow and trim for average surburban lawns when I had the side gig.

Probably quarter acre lawns at best. 15-20 minutes per house max with three mowers on the ground.

Went to harbor freight with a handful of coupons and they didn't have any of 3 things I was looking for.

Got some new canopy lights for the camper. My old rope lights broke, was gonna get another two sets but they didn't have any left. Had string lights for $20 with coupon so I got them instead.

Didn't have any heavy duty garden hoses left.

Didn't have any of the free flashlights left either.

Clothes washed, body in the hole, topping with black dirt to get the grass to grow in more quickly and evenly?

Best present ever. Opening them is addicting. I wish I lived in an area where they can be found. You can get them from all over the world and find an amazing variety of stunning crystals. Check Ebay. I could lose myself for hours in those things.....
