Honestly, I've never understood why people get so involved in the performance of a sports team they are not actually playing for, and are only associated to by geography. Their success or failure is in no way a reflection on the viewers at home (or really the viewers in the stadium, but there's likely some minor impact from noise).
But, people get wrapped up in it.
