Tenacity... look it up on amazon if you have any weeds at all. Gotta get it with the surfactant and dye, and you'll need a sprayer. I have a 2 gallon sprayer, but a gallon does my yard and 3 of my neighbor's yards. Potent stuff, but it kills a boatload of weeds and doesn't kill your grass.

I wish there was a selective herbicide for my type of lawn. The lawn spray dude comes every 3 mos- for stuff like fertilizer, pesticide, fungicide and the like.

From the pic I'd say we are about a mile apart. That looks like Thompson Peak in the background so I'm thinking you are somewhere north of FLR?

When it gets to -8, does that mean you disappear until it warms up???

Same here, our house is surrounded by woods, no grass, just one flower bed. I cut enough grass as a kid and twice a week when we lived on the Texas Gulf coast.

There is. It's this tenacity stuff... look it up.

"Tenacity is a selective, systemic herbicide that features a mode of action for pre- and post-emergence grass and broadleaf weed control in several cool- and warm-season turf speciesβ€”like keeping bentgrass out of your rough. Tenacity can also be applied on established or newly seeded turf."

Got the tenacity, surfactant and dye on amazon. Altogether it was like $100.

Currently 52, light drizzle at the moment. 61 is the predicted high with the sun peeking out after noon.

Hoping my chiro can see me today. WTF does being a patient of a doctor who can't see you the day you need him/her really mean? An adjustment can be done in just 5-10 minutes maximum. Time to find a back-up chiro.Brick wall

Not labeled as safe on St. Augustine grass, except for turf farming. Won't be able to buy it here. Thanks for the tip, BRO.

Check out here for suggestions: https://thelawnforum.com/index.php

I found this place through that place!

I have Manor (metsulfuron-methyl) and it's labelled for use on St. Augustine (I use it to kill my Rye before the Bermuda comes back). Looks like they stopped selling it though. I am sure you could find something else with the same active ingredient.

I know. We only can use Atrazine, which is really a mild pre-emergent with some selective knock-down.

Very nice! Did you do t he design and labor yourself?

That was a pic of the "pre"... I don;t have a good picture of the "post" yet, I am still adding a few plants. I did 90% of the labor myself. Removing boulders, tearing out the border, moving about 6y yards of landscape gravel. Twice. Removing all the plants in that last pic except the two large trees. I had some guys with a small skidsteer level the ground and also hd someone extend the irrigation lines to make room for new heads in the expanded areas. I did all the sprinkler head removal and installation, all the new border edging, all the grass installation (seed), final levelling of 5 yards of topsoil, and the planting of new plants. I still need to plant a few Star Jasmine vines and some Euphorbia tirucallii.

The reason for all of this was that I needed to expand the grass for a big playset for my kids, and the lawn was not level enough, not large enough, and I hated the curvy border when I had to mow.

haha, by the time I get the girls put to bed, get the wife put to bed, and get my carp taken care of, I have to decide if it's worth possibly falling asleep smoking a cigar on the back patio since I am so tired. I usually risk it. I have lost the gamble once or twice.

I am into the lawn, shrubs and flowers, but just don't do the work myself anymore. Did the entire yard and lawn design myself 20 years ago, after taking a four week course on landscape design.

I have perennials and year-round plants that all flower at different times and seasons, There is always color giving the "pop" appearance without having to replant flowers every season. All the different shades of contrastimg green, some with variegation (like ginger) and purple ground cover that blooms pink flowers.

My plants are palms (robelini), Ligustrum trees, sago, cardboard palm, variegated ginger (yellow and green), holly, pittosporum, African Iris (year round bloomer), lorapetalum, jade trees, aloe, mother-in-law's tongue (sanseveria), lilley of the Nile (agapanthus) and India Hawthorn. We use four inches of pine straw, pine park and hardwood mulch in all the beds.

My son's hobby is growing succulents and cactus. They are all miniature (2"-4") pots and some xeriscaped plant bowls on the back porch.

But, most important, I cannot imagine having to move all that rock by myself anymore. Once, I ordered 3 yds. of mulch and it took forever to scoop it and wheel barreling it to the shrubs. Took me two days. Must have killed you such that you will never do that again, right?

Alrighty then... after a 30 minute conversation with USAA explaining my coverages and digging into their "criteria" that has to be met to waive my deductible... it was waived.

CA adds criteria to be met in order to waive it. Not at fault, have the coverages, have the identity of the driver and registered owner, and a police report. Done, done, done, done and PAY ME!

Lucky for me I'm a relentless asshat when I know I'm right. Feel bad for the people that just roll over and don't question it.

I just know how these things go.

She'll probably end up having some crackers or pretzels while the boy and I eat egg rolls and/or tacos.

Smoked chicken's for her next batch of chili. She makes big batches and freezes it. Said she was on her last bowl so I smoked a chicken for whenever she makes it again. Her last batch I grilled a chicken, turns out that's unacceptable. Has to be smoked. I'm not a huge fan of her chili. It's all canned beans. It's fine, but not my favorite. She likes it so I don't say nothing. I made chili my way many years ago and it was rejected before taste testing so I just wrote that one off.

Eggroll filling tastes pretty decent. Maybe a bit too heavy on the ginger, I subbed a squeeze jar of pureed ginger rather than messing with grating my own root. I don't think it was a true 1:1 sub in the recipe.

Putting the first couple in the air fryer, see how that does. I suspect I'll be putting oil in the Dutch oven for the rest. We'll see.

Wife said they were awful. I think if I was allowed to oil fry em it would've been better. But she wanted em in the air fryer. Told me no when I went to oil fry some.

I liked em. She ate half of one. I had 4.

Your plants sound amazing, and low maintenance is the best quality in a plant IMO. I like that your son enjoys the long-game of growing succulents and cacti. If you ever need some "wild" cactus cuttings I can stuff a few in a box and send them for him. I have propagated Prickly Pear, Blue Elf Aloe, Totem, and Euphorbia from other plants, all with modest success.

I have to agree that if I knew before I started the project how hard it would be, I likely wouldn't have done it myself. I had to collect the 6 yards of gravel from my yard into a pile, then re-work the yard, then re-place the gravel in the areas I left as non-lawn. I lost count of how many pairs of work gloves I wore through. From time to time, though, I like to bite off more than I can chew (when the consequences are low) just to remind myself what I am capable of. Plus, I love looking at the results and knowing I did it myself.
