Dug out the whole patio area. Gotta set string lines and check depth and pitch, get my drain tiles in. Pretty sure I'm only halfway done digging. After doing the maths I gotta hold about a foot deep and I dug to about 8" on they eyecrometer.

Placing the order for pavers and sand now.

Took me at least an hour before I got used to the skid loader. I've run em before, but all my experience was with joystick controls, and 20 years ago. This one is pedal control and my brain was not willing to relearn things. Still moving slow, but I got most of the digging done and didn't knock over the house, the ac, or the well. Yet.

Waiting for my new transit level receiver to come, my old one would not work, and I bought it 20 years ago so it's probably time to replace anyway.

I think I still need to dig 4-6" but won't know till the laser toys arrive. I could do string lines and tape measures and box levels n stuff but I'd rather use the laser considering this patio is gonna be 50ft long.

Semi truck is scheduled for next Wed to drop off the pavers. Gotta get my level and then measure the volume for my base so I can book the dump trucks.

Headed up to the mountain house tomorrow as soon as I get in an early morning 5 miler. It's gonna be about 98 here and prolly 78 there so it's time to start provisioning the place for extended stays. (beer, wine and canned goods at least)
Maybe take the smaller 300 count humi up there too instead of just the travel humi. I'm sure there will be a few weeds to pull and some pruning in the rose garden and such. About one hour of yard blowing and general clean up. Maybe a limb or two to cut back.

Gonna meet with a realtor in the afternoon to look at a place with a killer back yard view on the golf course. We have been debating just selling and or buying another place as ours has doubled in price in the three years we have had it. We are always looking but most likely we will do neither unless we make it our #1 home and become snow birds in the winter months back in the desert. That would entail selling both houses and buying a house there and a condo/townhouse here. Think

Random thoughts....

Laundry done, debating on whether to fold it or not. Does anyone really fold shirts, jeans, socks and underwear? I do a basket of dirties and a basket of cleans. Fancy stuff like button down the front shirts and khakis get hung up but I don't have a job where I need to try to impress anyone. As long as the socks match, I'm good to go.

Baked chicken, wild rice and a side of corn for supper. That hits the spot.

I can't wait for corn on the cob season. Me likes some sweet corn on the cob. Watermelon season is coming up too. It's prolly my favorite summer fruit along with cherries.

Does the excavated area slope away from the house? If not, won't that lowered area promote water infiltration into the basement?

Sounds tasty but I'm not a lamb guy. I've had it once and didn't like it.

With that said, it's only one data point so it's not a valid assessment. I see it on sale at the grocery store now and again. What's the best cut and a simple recipe too cook it?

Mid fidddies here and a little overcast. Landscapers were out around 8:00 AM with full team of leaf blowers going. Spring clean up to clear leftover leaves from the grass areas and the parking lot from the winter sand, and an edger around the bushes and $hit. In the next few weeks they'll prolly be coming buy to add mulch. Prolly at 8 AM with one of those big mulch blower/spreader thingies.

The bird feeders that people have out have not been confiscated yet by the control freak building manager.

Gotta get on the horn with Mom. She called last night and apparently her printer is only printing in B&W.

Short discussion as I was trying to finish up my final term paper and get submitted before the deadline. Prof graded it this morning... 100% baby! Locked in an A for that class, still waiting on final grades for the other one.

Back to tech challenged Mom... possible printer solutions:
1) Did you check to see if you are out of colored ink?
2) Is your printer settings set to only print in B&W?

I don't know the name of the cut, but what we get (from Costco) looks and tastes like a small, 1.5-2" thick t-bone. We use a little olive oil, a lot of kosher salt, garlic powder and oregano. Then, we cook them to medium rare to medium as to each other's preference. YMMV.

don't eat it often anymore but have had plenty of lamb in my life.
Lamb chops taste different than leg of lamb and neither is like Lebanese lamb and green been stew (Greeks make a similar dish).

Next time I see a cut of lamb on sale, I grab it then check out recipes on how to cook it. Prolly something not much different than corking pork chops or more gentle cooking of a slab of steak

Haven't looked into it but my guess is some crushed rosemary, olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic maybe a splash of lemon juice and some crushed mint leaves. Let it sit for a bit in a ziplock bag on the counter at room temp. Then sear it in a cast iron skillet on high heat and toss into the oven (still in the cast iron skillet) a cook it until cooked to desired doneness (med rare for me, I need to see some pink).

It would but will all be graded away from house. Also adding drain tile in the stone bed.

Everything has a price. The two days of Summer we had over the weekend (73 & 68 degree highs). The pollen started cutting loose, which my body doesn't love.

A price though worth paying.

The cheap Chinese laser detector didn't work with my cst berger level kit.

On the fence now between putting another $200 into the cheap Chinese setup or a lot more on a good set and sell my old cst laser emitter.

Ran strings in the meantime. Some areas are deep enough, but most needs another 2-4" so back to digging. Can't set pitch easily without a laser. Can do with the strings but can't dig with strings across the pit.

It's $200 vs $800 for something I use maybe once every 3 years.

I bought the Chinese one. Can always send back if it's junk.

My cst set I bought used probably stolen off a drywall guy 20 years ago for $500. New it was 1200ish if I remember correctly. Can't replace the receiver, and specs on the Chinese one match or exceed specs on what I have so if it works as good, I'll be happy.

Digging is done. Stringlines say I've got the right pitch and depth. I'll check again when the laser comes.

But I did cut the power line to the shed/chicken coop. So now I gotta redo that. I thought it was 12" down. Might be 12" in the immediate area but it was 9" down from the base of the deck stairs which is where I'm setting the patio surface.

Welcome to the club. My wife, a former Catholic, insisted we get the boys baptized in the Presbyterian church. Of course, the minister, the same one that married us, explained it like the mafia, you can't raise one unless you are on so the older son and I got baptized together. Just a sprinkle for Presbyterians, water is for cooking.

The Chinese are hoping he stays with their set up. They win either way.
-Spends more money and it doesn't work, China makes money.
-If it does work, they'll have real time video of Dan's coon hunts.
