Morning, peoples. My prejudice against engineers is deepening. Yesterday this dude is explaining to one of my guys about a manual valve operating righty tighty (engineering term) to close. The least experienced guy on my crew has been operating valves for the last dozen years.

Kitchen remodel, Day 3. Reminds me of the Iranian hostage crisis.
KTG (Kuba the Greyhound) does NOT like one of the cabinet guys. He's a 6'2, doughy 250 with a ponytail/manbun.A discount Penn from Penn & Teller.

She's barked at him on and off.

He alleges she bared her teeth and lunged at him in an attempt to bite. Plausible? Yes. However (comma) there was a cage between them so a bite would have been impossible.

The second 'minor delay' has reared its head. Electrician can't make it until Friday. Which means the plumber can come in tomorrow, but that puts the cabinet people behind another day- they are already behind a day.

When the kitchen sink is removed tomorrow, we will be without a kitchen sink for three weeks. Wife says it is only going to be a week to a week and a half without a sink.

Who to believe?

Oh, and to add a degree of unnecessary complication, decided getting furnace companies in this week and next is a good idea. There is also a "deal" if we replace the air conditioner at the same time.

Why the Frank not? I'm working full time, the stock market is making money hand over fist, and I'm getting younger all the time.

Like Prince, I'm going to party like it's 1999. And hopefully not OD on Fentanyl.

Doesn't my watch have an app for that?

A few years ago I was out and about with the wife and, while standing in line for something, the two teenage girls in front of us turned and asked me what time it was. I told them it was a quarter to four. They looked at each other, then one whispered "what does that mean?" to the other... They probably vote now.

But a quarter of four is like 1:00, right? That's probably why there were confused. I blame the metric system.

Dd ya get the gold plated sink or just SS? Glad we got both bathrooms, one shower conversion and the kitchen done before all the ships lined up outside L A. Lived without a range for about one month but the rest worked out good.

See? This is why I want to buy new construction again. I don't wanna replace a dadgum thing until absolutely needed. Hopefully it's after I croak.

Really, I don't know. Think it is a two sided ceramic or some other composite kind of thing.

The first of the furnace air conditioner reps was here today. Seemed like a good dude. Said the installs are 3-4 weeks out. They have 20 AC installs inline from purchases the last half of last year. Shared a few options.

Said furnaces are the bigger pain in the backside. The first round of price ramp ups hit recently, and we all know it isn't going to get better anytime soon.

A rep for another company coming in to quote on Friday.

Would like to get a quote from a Trane or Payne provider as they appear to be highest rated.

Like Frank says... what is the downside?

To me it would be you'll find yourself needing to replace everything when you are 70.

Other than a kitchen sink & faucet and floor (probably $2,500) we haven't put money into it since our purchase in '98.

One of the wife's arguments for getting a new house is that we can find a place "that I won't have to work on." I'm not as gullible as I look, so I respond with, "Right. Like your going to find a house painted exactly the way you want it to be." She goes, "Well of course there will need to be painting done."

I'm unsure how that's going to happen without ne doing any work

Hypothetically you could hire someone to do it.

Yeah, I got sucked into that line of thinking when we built (well, the construction guys built it) our 2nd house.

The Ex played me like a fiddle. She knew I liked to have a chunk of land. The biggest selling point for me was the plot. 3 (or 5, I forget) acres of mostly wooded land. It was a slice of an old pick your own strawberries and blue berry farm and our plot was on the blue berry bushes end of the farm.

Sweet! Fresh blue berry bushes out front. While they were excavating, I told them to save as may bushes as they can. We ended up with like 20 bushes. We could pick 5 gallons of blue berries a week during the season (no lie).

Anyway, after signing up to get the house built... then came the upgrade options.

Tile floors in the kitchen and bathrooms instead of vinyl flooring = Upgrade.
You don' like our basic carpet selection? You want a different one = Upgrade
1/3 of the 1st floor was oak hardwood- dining room and another large room that I used as home office. I'm good with that so no Upgrade.
House interior walls are white primer. Don't like white walls? Want different colors = Upgrade.
Oh... you want recessed lighting.. that's an Upgrade.
Central air A/C... upgrade.
Garage door openers? Upgrade.
Kitchen cabinets, sinks, faucets, bathroom fixtures, and so forth beyond the standard package = Upgrade.
Kitchen stove and fridge - pick white or black for this specific supplier. Want to deviate from that? = Upgrade.

Lesson learned. It's PIA to deal with building contractors

My music mix caught a couple of songs

New Shoes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaecIn0iLfU

Saw him live at the Middle East Restaurant and Night Club in Cambridge, MA back around 2006. Nothing special but he's got some candy corn songs and chicks where into it. Ended up getting a room so the date was a successful investment.

Reminds me... gotta get some new walking shoes for the summer. The trusty ones that have been around need to be retired. I hate to give up some old shoes that are broken in but it's time to purge.

Another memory of bands seen at the Middle East was Luna on their Pup Tent tour(?). Lou Reed-ish like.

Hypothetically, I could hire it out, except a) pride since it was my job for half a decade back in the day, and b) I'm a cheap bastid.

We have ruled out construction largely for the upgrade cost reason. Land is an ongoing negotiation. I'd have no issue with multiple acres, and she'd have no problem with living on a postage stamp
