Dog is moping around because he didn't get his exercise. He hates rain... doesn't like the hose, either... and water in general is a no go unless he can walk in and stand up in it.
When I had my previous dog, he hated the rain too. Almost to the level of being a pu$$y. Even dew on the grass, he'd prance around tying not to get his feet wet. If it was raining out and I'd open the door so he could do his business in the backyard and he'd look out the door then look at me as if to say "You're kidding right?" He'd hold it as long as he could then when I gave him another chance he'd sulk out the door, do his business as fast as possible and run back in.
It's odd. He was part yellow lab, part collie and some other stuff (100% mutt). Both of those breeds love the water.
Best I can figure is he caught the phobia when he was a pup. I took him fishing with me and a friend. Put him in the canoe with us. It was a perfect morning. The weather was calm. Sun was up. The lake looked like a sheet of glass. No waves or anything. Beautiful.
He jumped over the edge of the canoe and plunged straight down. Maybe he thought he could walk to shore. He popped back to the surface. No matter how much he tried doing the dog paddle and trying to walk on water, it didn't work. We pulled him back into the canoe and he never wanted to swim again and hated to get wet.
Oddly enough, he loved the snow and we would need to be coax him to get inside. Hindsight is 20/20. Maybe I should have taught him how to run the snowblower and work a snow shovel but, sadly, he lacked opposable thumbs.
Probably by design. Free food, free home, loving family. "I'd love to shovel the snow but since I don't have thumbs I'll take a nap while your clear the snow."
I love pets. They are companions. I grew up cats and dogs pretty much my whole life. I see them a family member and each have different personalities.
