Went to a new cigar bar/liquor store/restaurant near my office today to meet a buddy. This place is dangerous... Really nice smoking loungle, all the bourbon you could imaging, great pizzas... I may need to sub-lease a table as a business expense.

Greetings kids. Been in funkified seclusion for a while. Had a rough run of things lately in the extended family, losing 3 of dad's brothers and sister since August. One in particular, my godfather, hit me pretty hard. Easily the most talented individual I've personally known. But don't just take my word for it.

https://youtu.be/ag5VZ_atfIc?si=JIyZnnKRdcPqxci1

The guy on the keys is the focus here, and apologies if you don't like big band/jazz for not warning you.

So, was telling dad I need a period of health from his generation at which point he promptly had a stroke 2 days before Thanksgiving. He had his carotid roto-rootered last Friday and is happily not suffering much beyond some slight speech issues as far as aftereffects.

Anyway, didn't intend to vomit out a pity party at you all. The intention at the start of this novel was to simply explain why I wasn't keeping tabs on the hijinks around here. Hope everyone is well or at least heading towards well.

On a more positive note, barring any snags in the process, I'll be buying Mrs. Beach a shiny newish home for Xmas. That should cover me on gifts for at least 5yrs. Same city though street and house # are super duper secret. I've learned a thing or two around here

I was between this or a tonneau cover but when I do Gridlife events the bed is piled full with an elastic net stretched over the top of everything. This will keep everything covered and I don't have to untangle that damn net again. Downside is I can't leave it on all the time. Can't go through the car wash with it.

They're not pretty but it'll give me better utility than a tonneau, and cost $3k less than an ARE fiberglass shell.

I don't think I'll ever do another shop rebuild. Reman is the way to go even though it costs a little more, I've never had a shop rebuild hold up for a reasonable amount of time.

I've used two tranny guys to rebuild 3 different transmissions. First one was on my 82 Olds Delta. It held up for 6 mo and 5k miles before it lost reverse again. Next one was a 91 Buick Regal and it failed just a couple days after rebuild. They rebuilt it again and it went out 1k miles later. Third rebuild they blamed me for blowing transmissions and told me this was the end of warranty coverage. It held up for 6ish months and would drop out of gear/not go into gear and you had to rock the shifter back and forth until it engaged. Third trans was the Chevy 2500 that I talked about here. Fourth trans I didn't fix but my father in law who bought the truck had a reman/upgraded unit installed for $2k more than a factory shop rebuild. He's put 20k on it and it is almost always towing 10k lbs. I put a reman into my wife's old Civic and got another 50-60k out of it before I sold the car.

Mornin' dudes... the Prodigal son (SOB) returns! We were kinda worried about you, buddy. I mean, not bad enough to send out the CROS search party, but lots of folks wondering where ya wuz. Happy to have you back, sir... and sorry about your godfather.

I bought a camper shell for my truck before we left CA. Needed it to keep all our stuff locked up and protected from the elements. I like having it. Rains a lot here...d'oh!
