let's recap...
My pal had a bunch of Elmers at my house as we finished off Jewish Christmas (movies and Chinese food). I also gave him a LFD DL 452...sent him to heaven.

I had:
Breaking & Entering
General Cheatham's Select Tennessee Whiskey (thank you Numi)
Belle Meade Sour Mash Straight Bourbon (thank you Numi)
with a San Cristobal (thank you Numi)

I had about as good a Numi Christmas as possible...

thank you Mark.

Similar to Basil at all?

Reminds me more of Bakers......as a matter of fact a Baker's clone almost. It doesn't have those high spicy rye notes that BH has although I do get the rye......it's a little more laid back IN the OGD.All that being said for the coin I'll take the OGD 114 over either any day.The minute you taste this though you will taste the family resemblance.

That Dickel Barrel Select will give anything else you got there a run for its money.Best Tennessee Whisky I've had to date.A customer gave me a bottle of Prichard's Double Barrell that looks amazing.....really dark and mysterious.Next trip to Abilene I'm going to go by the only liquor store that I know of that stocks Prichard's and grab a bottle of Prichard's Tennessee Whisky and compare the 3 side by side.No need to throw in the 3rd Tennessee whisky.....I already know Jack Daniels ain't for me.

Tonite a little Evan William's Bottled in Bond served "UP".Lot of flavor and not nearly as much burn as I would've expected in this 100 proof Kentucky juice.

Switched to Wathen's......I'd had it neat, very tasty nice vanilla and caramel notes with that just the right amount of burn on the way down.I'd had it on the rocks....again very good but it looses a lot on the finish.Tonite I'm having it UP........I think it captured just enough water from the chill to really open this stuff up.The vanilla really shows, the caramel about the same as neat but the finish is excellent.I'm getting more of an oak and pear thing going on now on the finish.....just excellent anyway you look at it.

Overall very nice for a $30 bottle.........very nice.

LOL I am about 2/3rds the way through the bottle now. The pine taste doesn't bother me though, I guess just cause it gives it a different taste then the other BT stuff. My BIL picked up a bottle of rowans creek yesterday and I am looking forward to giving that one a try. Might end up getting some Noahs Mill to try with it but its $65 here and I am trying to go through some cheaper bourbons at the moment.

I've heard good things about both the Rowan's Creek and Noah's Mill but tried neither. They just haven't showed up in my neck of the woods yet.

I've been comparing bourbons for about 2 months, wifey's getting pissed I ran out of cabinet right away.I've got a couple more bottles to find then I'm going to put up pics and give my opinions, for whatever that's worth.I also have almost all Tennessee whisky offered with the exception of that Jack crap........ I may just have to buy what they consider their best just to make this comparison fair.

I've done all the Texas bourbons and whisky's with the exception of the newest stuff out.IMHO if you like a whiskey with lots of corn on the nose along with some unidentifiable fruit, butterscotch and vanilla on the tongue and a looooooooong fig like finish you must try Garrison Brothers Texas bourbon. This bourbon is only aged 2 years but it's aged in hot and humid South Texas in small charred oak barrels and commands an $80 price tag.

If you like high rye Ranger Creek .36 Texas Bourbon is another outstanding whisky. On the nose cinnamon, cloves and a little vanilla. On the palette vanilla, caramel and oak........lots of oak.The finish is good kind of like the red hots you ate as a child......but it's short.Again this whisky is young, aged only 9 months in 5 gallon oak barrels in South Texas. Not sure if I got a good deal.....I found this in one store in San Angelo,a .375 bottle for $42.Yep pricy but uniquely good.

I was just doing some reading on the rowans creek. Looks like it used to be a 15 yr old bourbon but they had some consistency issues. Now it says its a mix of anything from 4 yr to 20 yr. That makes me wonder a bit about the price tag on it. Of course I will probably still try it.

Yes I did.......but it's not really a Texas whiskey.IIRC it's bottled here but distilled and barreled in KY.All that being said it's not a bad whiskey at all.....just a little thin IMO.On the palette it just needs more.

Prichard's Double Barrel

Oak is the key word......as a matter of fact that's all I get besides a little cinnamon.I'm going to experiment more......I had it neat and UP.Tomorrow I'll add a splash,if that doesn't work I'll try it on the rocks.I know there has to be more to this Tennessee whisky I just haven't found it yet.....and maybe there isn't but at 59 bones I damn well expect more.

Last nite I did some comparison drinking

John J Bowman Single Barrel,a product of Virginia,$51

Garrison Brothers Texas Bourbon,obviously a Texas product,$80

First off this is my 2nd bottle of Garrison Brothers. On that note I am going to call their quality control into question here. The first bottle was magnificent.....some very tasty and unique whiskey. This current bottle I received as a gift is missing all the things that made the first bottle so great.I still get that unique earthy flavor they both possess but the creamy marshmallow caramel sweetness that made me fall in love is not present.I'd read about some inconsistencies in other reviews I just had my doubts.....No more.I will not be purchasing anymore and I will remove this from my gift list my wife keeps.

On a much better note John J. Bowman single barrel is the real deal.Note this is a SINGLE BARREL and will be slightly different lot to lot. They do not list the barrel and bottle number.....some do some don't,*shrug*.On the nose very pleasing...sweet buttered corn, vanilla and cinnamon. On the palette even more to celebrate.....Apple pie(not that watered down overly sweetened crap people **** up good moonshine with....the actual flavor of a fresh baked apple pie),cinnamon, orange and rye bread. The finish is long and warm......citrus and cinnamon. This may just be the best whisky I have ever had.I do intend to get back there, only store I've ever found it in,in a couple weeks and buy them out. They had 4 bottles left and if they are still there I intend to own all of them.I'd like to keep a half a case on hand for special occasions cause this be some damn good stuff.

Over the weekend I was hitting a bottle of Bulliet 10.The regular Bulliet I liked but threw it in the category of "good starter whiskey, makes a great mixer".It reminded me of Makers Mark......one dimensional but drinkable, just nothing to write home about.Well Bulliet 10 is a whole other story.......I guess this is really where Bulliet shines.Lots of caramel, vanilla, peach with a bit of oak.It just pours over your tongue like a fine maple syrup with just enough burn to remind you that this is WHISKEY.The finish is citrussy and quite long......I got a lot of tangerine and mango.

Bulliet 10 has found a home.........IN MY BELLY.
