Yeah, I had it up and running with High Sierra. I'm getting the hack from HackintoshZone. tonymacx86 is another site that I found to be a good resource. It thinks it's a 2017 Mac-mini. At first it wouldn't let me install it until I changed the date in the BIOS to the year 2017 ("this computer can't install this operating system" or something or other. High Sierra wasn't released until 2017 so probably has something to do with that)
Other bumps in the road that I'm getting now:
- Difficulty getting into the Apple Store to auto install updates, I was able to log in one time and do a force update but can't get into it again. There's postings on this problem so it's a known and fixable issue. Just need to read up on it and fix it. It's not a show stopper.
- I don't have a WiFi card installed so I'm I'm using a WiFi USB dongle. The WiFi is intermittent: it's on for a bit then disconnects itself. Have reconnect again and/or unplug and replug the dongle in. Tried 2 different dongles and different USB ports. Same issues. Based on what I've read in the fourms, it's not an uncommon thing and folks have fixed it. Tried to follow some troubleshooting tips but it looks like I screwed it up worse. I either I told it to disable network connections or turned off a network setting somewhere or something. Whatever it is, I screwed something up. Just need to read up on it and fix it.
Read some stuff about trying different Kexts that might fix it but don't think that's the problem. I think the problem resides between the computer and the chair.
- I can't boot it from the hard drive, only the USB stick that I used to do the install. This is also a known issue with known fixes. Something about my EFI files on my stick didn't transfer over to the EFI on the drive or the bootloader on the hard drive is missing some files and I need to copy them over from bootloader on the USB. Again, a known screw up and something fixable. Just need to read up on it and fix it (there's a common theme here).
Rather than screw around to try to unscrew what I screwed I just punted and I'm going with a fresh re-install. It's only takes about 35 mins. It's not super important, I'm just doing it fart around.
Kinda cool though.
