Is it that much different from Yoga? I just read an article about it... I think the main difference is there is more movement in Pilates? Do I have that right?

I am by no means well versed in the differences. I've always hated yoga.

My limited experience is that yoga has more stretching of your limbs in a manner that may not necessarily be focusing on core strength.... where the pilates classes I've taken almost every exercise seems to also incorporate core strength.

The other difference is yoga seems to have some exercises which stretch the spine a bit, not necessarily in a way that's great for it if you've already got some discs not working correctly. Pilates doesn't seem to be trying to stretch too much.

but that's just a very cursory experience. I've stuck with the pilates exercieses I got from my PT and did them on my own for years to try to keep my back from going out again.

Never trust a fart if you're over 40... That should be a law.

I'm going to give it a try. Sounds like it will be better for me. Thanks for the info, Pilates wasn't even on my radar. Surprised my Dr. didn't mention it.

HAHAH!!! never trust me over a Dr.

Sh@t. this is how bad facebook advice starts circulating.

Celtic... ask your Dr before you try it (assuming the Dr specifically told you to do yoga)...

If the dr was just like : "You're fat and lazy... do something... hell, do yoga" then maybe don't bother him.

He basically just suggested anything that was low impact and mentioned doing something like Yoga. I was going to hit the gym and the heavy bag and was told that would be a bad idea. So, it's all good.

Edit: He did specifically mention doing something that would strengthen my back and core. So Pilates sounds like it might be just the thing I need.

BTW when I move my elbow a certain way it hurts... any advice Dr. Victor? ;-p

Lifelong friend I used to work construction with, but haven't seen in at least 5 years is stopping by today.

I asked him if he could have some respirators fall into his bag. We're getting one per week.

He dropped off 3. Definitely appreciated.

Danm's acquisition of PPE this way is an indictment on how badly we've botched our response to this pandemic...but I'm glad he knew a guy...

Danm works in a hospital. A hospital should have planned for this a little better than a jail, ya think??

We have N95 masks for our employees. Bleach wipes. Lots of cleaning supplies (obviously). If the hospital in which he works does not, and a jail does... that's an indictment on that particular hospital, I think.

Stuffed some cheeseburgers with crumbled bacon and cheddar and threw them on the bbq, sliced up some russet potatoes and French fried em on up...

Didn't get to fish yesterday so I still haven't fired up a cigar... Wife says she thinks I've earned one after that meal... Think i might take her advice this evening...

What a coincidence! I woke up from a nap and smelled cheeseburgers... that I was supposed to cook.

Wife made burgers and fries. I'm stuffed.

The demand for a hospital among the flood of patients is a very different algorithm than that of a jail in terms of total number, length of use and per capita turn over of masks. But meh. Glad danm got his.

crunches?
lay on your back, knees bent slightly, arms crossed on chest, lift and hold head and shoulders a bit for 10 seconds x 10 lifts x 3 sets?

make sure to push the small of your back against the floor/mattress.

that was my first exercise assigned by the neurosurgeon after removing L4/5 25 years ago.

still do those occasionally with a few other small movement exercises for lower back strengthening.

Apparently not for danm. Glad to hear he got some PPE. Nobody should be asked to work in that environment without protection job or not.

Under typical use, we'll go through about 50-100 respirators per patient per day. I had a TB patient a month or two ago and commented on how wasteful it is. Dude was super needy too, so any time you stepped away he was on the call light again which means one more respirator, one more gown, one more pair of gloves just so he could say he prefers white drinking straws over the yellow ones. I've said for years sometimes it's okay to say Fxck the Press Gainey's we got a job to do. But management has said time and again that approach is unacceptable. Guess which approach is being used now.

We were sticking with usual protocol initially, but had to rapidly scale back and look for alternative means when we realized our very first positive patient was going to singlehandedly wipe out our entire supply. Normally the hospital will only see one to maybe 4 airborne isolation cases at any given time. Everyone's grasping at straws. 3M says they can be reused, but should dry out for a few days between use. That's fine if you have a few days off between shifts, but I work week on week off.

Always wondered if the masks could not be disinfected and reused in an emergency.

Got an email saying the temp hospital being made in Chicago will be paying nearly $10k/week. 21 12hr days on, 2 days off.

They give you a hotel room to live in too.

Staffing is 1RN to 15 patients. Holy chit did I read that right?! Yup....

Happy Tuesday fellas
