We have N95 masks for our employees. Bleach wipes. Lots of cleaning supplies (obviously). If the hospital in which he works does not, and a jail does... that's an indictment on that particular hospital, I think.
Under typical use, we'll go through about 50-100 respirators per patient per day. I had a TB patient a month or two ago and commented on how wasteful it is. Dude was super needy too, so any time you stepped away he was on the call light again which means one more respirator, one more gown, one more pair of gloves just so he could say he prefers white drinking straws over the yellow ones. I've said for years sometimes it's okay to say Fxck the Press Gainey's we got a job to do. But management has said time and again that approach is unacceptable. Guess which approach is being used now.
We were sticking with usual protocol initially, but had to rapidly scale back and look for alternative means when we realized our very first positive patient was going to singlehandedly wipe out our entire supply. Normally the hospital will only see one to maybe 4 airborne isolation cases at any given time. Everyone's grasping at straws. 3M says they can be reused, but should dry out for a few days between use. That's fine if you have a few days off between shifts, but I work week on week off.
