Had coffee, and walked the GF's kids to the bus. First day of school and all..

Bacon, egg, and cheeseburger for breakfast.

Work in a few, then a cigar at 7PM.

Should be a good day.

Good morning.

Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, began at sunset last night and continues for two days. Many. if not most American Jews only celebrate the first day and not the second, and only take one day off work off to attend religious services.

It is among the holiest days of the year for Jews. We begin a self-introspection period of our wrongs of the past year and ask the people wronged and God, for forgiveness. Ten days later, we celebrate Yom Kippur, the Day of Attornment, during which we ask for God's forgiveness for our past year's transgressions and in particular, ask that we be "Inscribed in the Book of Life" for another year (of life).

We celebrated with a traditional dinner last night. Wife took the day off. It is an important, but still relaxing day to enjoy, despite the gravity of the beginning of the "Days of Awe."

Waz up?

I am amazed the two Zanax I took before my procedure this morning really affected me. I was, to say the least, very compliant for the doctor and nurse. I say "amazed" because I have been taking another benzodiazepine (Klonopin) twice daily for 20+ years.

also, finding ways through this introspection to truly forgive others as well.
Much tougher to be honest with oneself to do this than to basically pray for forgiveness and another year of life...in my opinion.

Serious question for my Jewish brothers... (Frank and Robert, and no offense is intended or implied)

Neither of you actually believe in God, am I right? (If I am wrong, my apologies)

If that's the case, what's the point in following a tradition you don't believe in?

They believe in God.
They just don't believe that the Baby Jesus is our Lord and Savior.

Poor poor baby Jesus...

To simplify they do not believe the second coming has happened yet.But when it does they will accept Christ as their Lord and Saviour.

I wish I knew who was right but since they are God's chosen people maybe it doesn't matter...................since I am not a Jew I'm gonna bank on the New Testament

First of all, Happy New Year, my friend.
Second, you never have to apologize to me for questions like these.

I wish the first simple yes no question could be answered with a simple yes or no, at least for me personally.
I simply don't know, but I figure if there is something beyond I'll find out eventually.
And I may have reason to decide before my demise, but I can not know that currently.
I understand the "faith" so many of my friends share in their religious beliefs, and I am sincerely happy for them that it answers some questions with which I continue to struggle.

I'll apologize up front for an unsatisfactory response to the second question.

I believe that Judaism is a bloodline. We do not proselytize, we even make it difficult for people to convert.
For me, the traditions have existed for at least a couple of millenium (millenia?) and provide a sense of having traceable roots to the beginning of recorded history. That brings an enormous responsibility for care taking with it, if one is willing to appreciate that history.

I am willing.

I see so many without this foundation, this blessing, upon which to build their lives and families that I simply do not want to be the last of us on Earth. Truly, it is an advantage in many ways.

I'm not sure how to properly use the word "diaspora", but we have been the victims of it for centuries, yet the common bond could never die, could not be extinguished, despite the best/worst efforts of many otherwise successful civilizations. That bond is all about our traditions, for many of us that includes strong faith, but I've never been given a litmus test by any Rabbi in my life.

I am intimately aware of the sacrifices of more recent generations on both sides of my family. But I do not have a family tree that goes much further back than the mid/late 1800's. I'm certain it is a repeat of the lives of my family since then.

Knowing what my grandparents and great grandparents endured to make it possible for me to live this great American life, and to reclaim the modern State of Israel, I can not fathom turning away from the traditions they kept alive against the greatest of odds.

Absolutely bank on your faith, Ron. It's part of your strength that has made me admire you, trust you, and cherish our friendship.

You and so many others!

I'd like to add a distinction of words to clarify the Jewish thoughts to your first sentence though...I'm certain that other Jews may find my understanding to be incorrect, but here's how I think it goes.

Devout Jews (I should not presume to speak for them!) believe that The Messiah was to appear but once, and the rest of the promises would ensue.

So by definition to those who follow only the Old Testament, it simply could not have happened yet, and so we wait for the Messiah.

I suppose the best ending would be if both beliefs are correct, but what would we do with all the Buddhists, Hindus, Liberals...HA!

Thank you, Frank. That answered my question well, sir. It was just my curious nature, so I had to ask. "None of your damn business" would have also been acceptable. HA!

I respect and appreciate your desire to keep the tradition going for your family's sake.

Currently 64 headed to 95.

Water temps have been unseasonably low and the pelagic fish we hunt have been conspicuously absent recently. Buddies and I prepared ourselves for some rock fishing and a couple boats reported finding yellowfin tuna within our range.

Unfortunately... the guy with the boat has to work. d'oh!

We have to wait until Sunday to try our luck.

Good Wednesday Morning! It was in the seventies this morning on the way to 88° today.

Doing more plastic printing today. Ball bearing handles for presses. The bearings are common skate board wheel bearings, common, cheap and plenty precice for a handle. After that I'm redoing the design of a flanged bushing to hold the camera end of one of those cheap cable bore snakes. I need the bushing to hold the camera assembly in the tool holder of my reloading press. With the camera working I can look into each case to verify there is powder before placing a bullet. The camera has a ring of tiny LED lights built in.

I was going to turn a wood bushing, but decided to try tinkercad to design a bushing I could print. It took a few tries to get into the way this CAD program works. For me, every CAD program has been unlike any other software I've ever used. I was able to run Microstation at work make (very) rudimenty changes/corrections.

Tinkercad, a free all online application, is a sort of Fusion light and pretty simple to use. To make the bushing I had to add three tube objects, then by changing the lengths, diameter and wall thickness to form a flange and an inner narrowed opening. I joined the three into one to create the bushing.

Hello.
Had a bunch of needles stuck into my neck yesterday. They injected a local anesthetic that lasted about 3-4 hours. I was out of pain, which is a positive sign the trial injections worked. One more set of trials with a good result and then the doctor will use microwave tipped needles to burn out the nerve roots, hopefully alleviating my left sided neck pain for 6-12 months. I am Psyched!

Now, I just have to get the motivation to go swim some laps. I am officially down to 185 from 200 lbs. from almost three months of swimming and feel great!

How are you all doing?

Tryed letting the water jet at the side of the pool, massage your neck and back for about 10-15 minutes before and after. Just hanging loosely. It work for me but I'm just a idiot as you say.

Glad you're feeling better.
