had a good day today...took my older sister (70 yr old) to her first PT appointment.
She has been living in a senior community, on the independent side...her physical condition has been deteriorating for the past 4-5 years and she has fallen numerous times...recently, she has been unable to get up from the floor when she falls...the center has called the local FD for "lift assist" emergency services...I told them to stop calling the Fire Department...instead I want them to call me and I'll go and get her up...that's happened twice, so we scheduled appts with a neurologist who made referrals for PT.
This repeats a pattern that happened two years before, after she fell, injured her head, neck and shoulder and was hospitalized...she never followed through with those appointments...we moved her out of her condo, and into the senior community where we hoped she would improve, but it didn't happen...my wife and I said we'd have to intervene and after her last fall, we were prepared to move her into assisted living.
Long story short, unbeknownst to us, she recently had neglected to refill her blood pressure meds when they ran out...then she started falling...usually while rushing to the bathroom...we refilled the prescription, bought her some slim fitting Depends and escorted her to the Neurologist and her PT sessions. My wife agreed to keep an eye out for her meds at her on-line pharmacy page, and to get them refilled before they run out. Hopefully, with our help and pushing, my sister will regain some of her independent living skills.
