Turns out I needed glasses. My hitting and fielding improved exponentially. I mean... like, I was terrible, and then holy crap, I was really good!
Wore the damn things for years. Couldn't do contacts. My eyes would dry out faster than a raindrop in the Sahara. Then got the PRK surgery in 1998. 24 years later and I can still see distance just fine. Can't see anything up close without reading glasses, though.
I got glasses around age 5. I still remember that day vividly.
I'd never actually seen a bird or squirrel before.
Leaves grew on trees, individually.
Signs on the sides of the road became readable.
The school counselor that told my parents in front of me that I may be mentally retarded said I was fine.
I would love to do vision correction surgery. But I see so many surgical complications in general in my line of work I just can't bring myself to accept the risk for ANY optional surgery. My insurance actually covers most of it but the risk/benefit doesn't work out for me.
