You got a point. My wife said she wanted a new vacuum. I got her other things, but also told her on her birthday she could buy whatever new vacuum she wanted because I didn't want to buy the wrong one... She did, and seemed happy about it.

Don't buy her a vacuum, you might get the wrong one. Let her pick it out herself.

Plus, think of the conversation with her friend...

Friend: "So, what did your husband buy you for your birthday?"

Wife: "A new vacuum."

Friend: "That basstid."

There is just no winning.

Just finished a 5 miler in shorts and a jacket. Started out 44 but now it's a sunny 56 headed to 71.

Wife's brother just txt from Minn that it's -33 there. I'm guessing -33 and -3 are pretty much the same. UFF DA! If I had to put up with that you could just shoot me.

-3 and -33 are only one 3 different but it's the difference between your snot freezing in your nose and the tears freezing on your eyes.

It's quite unpleasant.

I’ve literally had this conversation with my wife. I said I know you want a new vacuum but there is no way in hell I’m getting that for you for Christmas or birthday.

Daughter got us a Roomba this year for Christmas. I named it Alberto.

It’s the frozen sinuses, tearing of the eyes in the wind, followed by those wet eyelashes freezing together.

The one highlight is throwing hot water out the door and watch it instantly turning to snow.

Pure, northern entertainment.

Start off by offering her a back rub. If she says No, tell her you’ll take one.

While she’s doing it, say Happy Birthdaaaaaay.

Forgot to get her a card so I had to run to CVS. Had to sneak out when she was out and didn't know I'd be gone. She's big on getting/giving cards and doesn't like it when I buy one last minute (because she's a chick). So, in addition to the birthday card, I also bought a valentines Day card. #Winningthegame!

I did purchase a vacuum cleaner for the wife once for a Xmas gift. It was a very limited, very specific, and very directed list that year

That description was actually quite accurate for that area during the Mesozoic Era

Good Saturday Morning! It's a clear cold 33° on the way to 53° today.

Today's jobs are roasting coffee and installing a free library box for our neighborhood. My contribution is the 6x6 inch post and books when it's done. A retired Navy officer, no idea of rank, likes woodworking and built the box. Several boxes have been built around town and are supposed to be successful, I hope so, but we shall see.

I was thinking of changing oil in both Hondas but the thought of crawling under cars on my back in a cold garage did not sound very appealing. Found a tire place with a special $16.95 for oil change, filter and tire rotation. Gonna have to pay extra for synthetic and a $3 charge for disposal, which I would need to pay anyway iffn I did it myself. I already changed the air filters.

Hell ya! Getting too old for that chit.

49 headed to 62. Prolly have a beer and a smoke with the fellas today.

DED - disposal fee for used oil? Any place in CA that sells oil has to accept the used stuff for free. I usually buy Mobil 1 at Wally World and dump it at O'Reilly's.

I do the oil in my truck. The wife's car is too fkn complicated, so I pay for hers.

Make sure it's wabbit season and not duck season.

Yea. Az is not Cali. My dad used to spread our used oil on the dirt driveway to hold down the dust when I was younger but that is now called toxic pollution. The old homestead is prolly a superfund site now.

What's up dudes?

Had a real nice birthday dinner for my wife last night at one of her most favorite restaurants- Colombia in Celebration, FL

She had such a great day. Friday, she got a call from a past employer from like 10 years ago. His office manager gave notice. He wanted to see if she wasb all on the same day- her birthday!!! Yesterday, he interviewed her, had his recruiter interview her later on, then called again to formally discuss salary and benefits and to hire her. She used to just manage his front desk. Now, she's going to manage 20+ employees and a chit-ton more, just to start. 44% increase in base salary plus office performance bonuses plus great benefits. What an UNBELEIVEABLE day for her!!!

Getting our eyes tested today so I can buy new glasses before my wife leaves her current job's vision insurance plan. We are all going to max out on our annual benefit today, including free glasses, so as not to lose out when the coverage ends in 30 or so days.

Now, I got to figure out the COBRA thing vs. Obama Care for the time until she is eligible for health insurance new job. 8rack explained it here once a few years ago, but I can not find it and the rules may have changed..

Hey Robert, not to be a potstirrer but your wife has great leverage and getting “just” a 44% increase seems on the low side. I get that there are bonuses and benefits too but they need her, she doesn’t need them (…or so it seems…). Plus, her job responsibilities have significantly increased. Personally, I would, if it’s not too late, counteroffer and ask for a more substantial base pay increase. Factoring in the length of time since her employment there, inflation, etc., anywhere from 75 to 80% increase wouldn’t be out of the question. As a friend used to always tell me, “You don’t ask, you don’t get.”

Light rain and temp drop - everything is frozen.

Tried to get the mail. Walked onto the driveway and got to the bottom without moving my feet. Got the mail but walked back up on the snow. Driveway is impassable

Work called, 2 people slid off the roads and called off.

No. I don't think I explained it well. She did negotiate down to the 44% increase over and above her **current** executive salary (without even considering the probable 10-15% more in incentives and better benefits). She's already well paid. This is going to be just awesome!!! Applause
