Kavanaugh had a large debt magically get paid off.... He didn't earn enough to do it, so the question is where the money came from. This question has been asked but not answered for much longer than his little attempted rapey thing, but has not been answered at all....

Besides....the debt reports were all 'ranges'. If he was anywhere near the low end of the range each time, then it wouldn't even be discussed. Whatever reporting tools were used have pretty wide choices.

"In 2016, Kavanaugh reported having between $60,000 and $200,000 in debt accrued over three credit cards and a loan. Each credit card held between $15,000 and $50,000 in debt, and a Thrift Savings Plan loan was between $15,000 and $50,000."

Even 100K would be a big chunk of debt, but not all that hard to pay off in expedited fashion...especially if there were outstanding loans....like for having bought tickets for a group and awaiting repayment. I can see how such an explanation might play in the news, but I, too, don't hear anyone making a huge stink about it. His answers must have satisfied the left committee members; at least that could lead to the sort of allegation that might actually be proved by investigations...of which there are none. I wouldn't waste too much time worrying about it, Victor

It really sounds like he was a really sh&tty kid in high school. I mean, we only have our own actions to judge him against and none of that would have been appropriate to high school me.

Dsteig... I don't disagree with you 100%... But I find it really surprising it was never answered in a way that we see.

I do agree that $$ and debts are the first thing a background check looks into, so in theory this was explained sufficiently to satisfy his background checks... But I'm surprised I don't see an easy answer.

His earnings were supposed to he about 200k annually. He had private school expenses in the 20k range.. doesn't leave a lot of $$ to pay off a 100k debt... In one year. Maybe it's been explained, but I hear occasional requests for explanation, which makes me think it hasn't been... That it's just been overshadowed by the news cycle. (Hell maybe that was the design)

It was in the yearbook.... Unless he was the yearbook editor, he wasn't responsible for the inclusion of the term in question... And it never appeared anywhere near a picture of just him... It was part of a caption included under a group of football players of which he was a part...

Uh, the Renate chick herself signed a petition of sorts claiming Kavanaugh was an upstanding and respectful man.

I don't know what sort of person you were in highschool but I never implied I screwed anyone I didn't. And I never created a published or other sort of record anything about screwing anyone I either did or didn't screw.

My statements throughout this entire thread (not that you bother to read and understand anything) have been on the caveat that we need to determine credibility. If I have been discussing actions it is a theoretical discussion over the actions not whether they were perfomed.
His words I judge him on, and he seems to ahve been a slimy little kid. But I haven't said a damn thing about whether that has any impact on whether he should be a SCJ...

I’m still amazed by the zeal to not investigate allegations and to determain validity through the press which is otherwise called the enemy of the people. It’s pretty transparent why.

I’m with Victor at this point. If you want to push through without investigation (there is more information out there that wasn’t during the last background check and when similar situations existed with other judges in the last year alone background investigations were reopened) the Reps certainly have the power to do so. If they are willing to wallow in their own filth and pay the price they can’t be stopped. It seems like a big risk to me but it is what it is.

I say investigate then confirm assuming things are unfounded. It seems the safest and right path. If the decision is to declare things unfounded and not investigate it’s a conscious decision to live with the risk. So be it.

I don’t know what he did or didn’t do. I only know what the press has told me. And the spin on that has been brutal depending on the outlet. Too bad a professional nonpolitical investigation has not weighed in.

I thought this is being investigated... How else would we know what we do... I guess if some actual evidence of a crime appeared the FBI might get involved.. right now the Resistance will have to keeping their investigators investigating... Hopefully they will stop the fabricating.

It’s a background check not a crime investigation. The additional investigation would be the norm. Skipping it is the exception. Additional checks following previously undisclosed allegations are not uncommon.

And no a non political professional investigation is not happening, and probably won’t.

But it’s a conscious decision with known risk. Proceed and take your chances. To me it’s not worth the risk.
